Shared Topic Idea: The Perfect Weapon
What would be the perfect weapon for your character(s) and why? Is it something already in game? Is there lore or a roleplay reason that you’d use this weapon? Would you wish for a completely new item to be implemented in the game just for you? What would it look like? Would it have special abilities? Is there a story behind how you got it? Does it have a fancy name like Frostmourne?
My characters all mean something to me, even my good for nothing Rogue. I remember naming each one of them. Those characters not yet created are already named. Three are very closely tied to one another and have literary history together.
Aliera my Warlock main, Sethra my Mage, and Kieron my Death Knight all come from novels by Steven Brust. Each of them carried weapons of immense power that would be awesome to have in Warcraft.
Aliera carries two major weapons in the novels: the first is Kieron’s Greatsword, which, seeing as I have Kieron as a character, will go to the original owner instead; the second is a rather unique weapon by the name of Pathfinder. (Sethra carries a weapon called Iceflame which is a sister blade to Pathfinder.)
Pathfinder is a powerfully enchanted Morganti blade (which means a single cut by the blade will destroy an individual’s soul) that was hidden as a lesser blade until it was released in an encounter with several other extremely powerful artifacts. After being revealed as Pathfinder, Aliera took the blade and has wielded it since (to my knowledge).
Pathfinder has a rather unique ability that could be added to WoW without much trouble. Pathfinder (or as it would be more directly translated Artifact-in-sword-form-that-searches-for-the-true-path) can be used to detect and track the location of just about anything. In WoW, Pathfinder could have a cooldown ability of perhaps 30 to 60 minutes that would allow the wielder to track a target regardless of anything for 30 seconds. No invisibility, no stealth, even across zones, this ability would allow you to know exactly where they are and be able to target them.
In glancing through some models on Wowhead, I particularly like the simplicity of the Azuresong Mageblade model. A simple, unadorned blade with an elegant hilt and guard, slight emanations from the blade, just what a great artifact weapon should be.
